Many comparisons have been made to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, one of the most highly praised Zelda games of all time. On February 26, Nintendo is re-releasing the game that redefined the Zelda franchise, allowing a whole new generation of gamers to relive the quest to save Hyrule yet again.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time inspired millions of players around the world with its in-depth game play, rich 3-D visuals and memorable adventures. It set the standard by which all other games have been judged. And now it’s available once again, both for veteran gamers to relive their gaming glory days and for younger players to discover it for the first time.

There is now the possibility to play a Legend of Zelda title on the Wii from every Nintendo console made. Not even Mario enjoys this classification yet, as Super Mario Galaxy is not expected to appear for the Wii until the 2007 holiday season.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be available for 1,000 Wii Points™ on the Wii Virtual Console when it goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Feb. 26.

Nintendo Wii begins shipping to retailers

Nintendo has begun packaging massive amounts of Wii systems to be sent out to retailers in the U.S. for the November 19th release. With that date just over a week away, and millions of units to get to stores, there is a lot of work to do.

Nintendo is shipping Wii game consoles to retailers in the U.S. in time for the official Nov. 19 release date. Nintendo anticipates shipping 4 million consoles worldwide by the end of 2006, with the largest share of these going to the Americas.

Nintendo is also hard at work on packaging the games to along with the Wii, including the most anticipated title: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It will only be one of the 60+ games available on launch day, but it will probably be one of the most purchased titles by the end of the year.

Lines will form, retailers will sell out, and on November 19th many gamers will get their first real time with Nintendo's revolutionary new console.

[Nintendo Press Release]

Update: Nintendo released a new batch of Screenshots from Twilight Princess.

Nintendo Wii launching with over 60 titles

With less than three weeks until launch, Nintendo has announced the final launch lineup for the Nintendo Wii. Although not every title will be available on November 19th, they will all be available in the first five weeks, what's normally called the "launch window." As well as new Wii titles, and Virtual console downloads, the existing GameCube library will be completely playable. This is because the Wii is built on the same basic architecture used for the GameCube. This adds over 500 titles that will be playable, although Nintendo has not announced any added benefit to playing GameCube games on the Wii.

Wii owners also will return to their youth with 30 classic games available for download to play on Wii's Virtual Console™. These include games for the NES®, Super NES®, Nintendo® 64, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx16 consoles. Players redeem Wii Points in the Wii Shop Channel and download their games.

The Virtual Console is going to be the first mass market attempt at selling content that most players are used to finding illegally. Before now, to play F-Zero for the SNES you had to either find an old cartridge and system, or spend a few seconds searching on the internet for an emulator and game ROM. Some people had built arcades machines that were basically computers loaded with emulators and ROMs; Now this same basic idea will be available to anyone with a Nintendo Wii.

The complete list of launch window titles is available by clicking "read more" below.

NINTENDO'S WII WILL BOAST 62 TITLES AND COUNTLESS NEW WAYS TO PLAY [Nintendo Pressroom]

Zelda: Twilight Princess confirmed to utilize the 'Revolution' controller

When asked about the status of Twilight Princess, he stated that one of the most important features is that you can use the 'Revolution' controller when playing the game on the upcoming console. There have been rumors and counter-rumors to whether or not there would be any real differences between playing the game on the GameCube or on the 'Revolution', but this makes it pretty clear.

"I would say that we are progressing well with completing it," says Miyamoto. "And one of the most important features is that, because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller."

The details regarding Twilight Princess are clearing up as we approach E3, where Miyamoto says that much will be revealed. We can hope that this means some actual dates, clarification of what added bonuses are available when playing Twilight Princess on the 'Revolution', along with the official name of the new console.

Nintendo: Official Magazine shows developer support for Nintendo's new console

Our friends over at GoNintendo have gotten their hands on some new scans from Nintendo: Official Magazine, a new publication that's come out in the UK. In the premiere issue they talked with developers at Capcom to get their impressions of developing on the DS and Revolution. Overall impressions were quite positive, hopefully they were not influenced too much by the people editing the interview.

There's a lot of good info about how the DS has evolved from the gimmick looking concept that we first heard about to the star of touch-screen gaming it has become. A few upcoming titles are mentioned such as Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime Hunters, but nothing completely unseen. The last page has a cutout for creating your own full size 'Revolution' controller, which if nothing else lets you get an idea of how well it will blend in with your existing remotes.

Update: Apparently the base we've been seeing since last year is confirmed to be the power supply for the unit. This raises
as many questions as it answers, but at least it's new information.

Ganon returns to the Zelda mythos in Twilight Princess

Character designer, Yoshiyuki Oyama, revealed a few details on Ganon's role in the upcoming, Zelda: Twilight Princess. While he didn't divulge the entire scenario, Oyama-san did reveal that the Zelda development team is "preparing more than you could possibly ever, ever, ever expect…". Sounds like some encouraging words for those who were turned off of the Zelda series with the last release, The Wind Waker. More details are revealed in the interview in Nintendo Power Issue #201.

"And how will my monsters ensure that Twilight Princess is the greatest Zelda game ever? Wait and see. You won't be disappointed." Oyama sure is boasting, but with how much time he has had with this game, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes good on this claim. Additionally, Oyama states he feels enemies have been too easy in the past, and that they will be more challenging in Twilight Princess. He also assures us the bosses will be far more challenging than what we’ve seen before in Zelda games.

I am SOOOOOO happy to hear that. I think a lot of us have been yearning for the next Zelda title to pack a little more in the difficulty department. The ease of enemies/boss fights in recent Zelda games really is my only complaint, but it looks like that is being taken care of.

The magazine also confirms a November 2006 release for the next-gen system.

"NGC can exclusively reveal that Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console’s unique controller. Zelda will actually 'bring in' the Revolution by launching fairly close to the new system, which is set to be released around November of next year, according to our sources."

While the game will be released on the Nintendo GameCube it is assumed that the same disc will be playable in the 'Revolution' and allow you to take control of Link in some very creative ways. Expect to see a full demonstration of Twilight Princess on the 'Revolution' at next year's E3.

We are left with a significantly more adult and life-like version of the character that should assauge the complaints fans had with the outgoing art style of Wind Waker. On an interesting side note, Nintendo has revealed that this incarnation of Link is not the one found in Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker, but how this Link relates to the others has been left rather inscrutable up to this point.
