Nintendo Wii Front Angle Shot with RemoteWith less than three weeks until launch, Nintendo has announced the final launch lineup for the Nintendo Wii. Although not every title will be available on November 19th, they will all be available in the first five weeks, what's normally called the "launch window." As well as new Wii titles, and Virtual console downloads, the existing GameCube library will be completely playable. This is because the Wii is built on the same basic architecture used for the GameCube. This adds over 500 titles that will be playable, although Nintendo has not announced any added benefit to playing GameCube games on the Wii.

Wii owners also will return to their youth with 30 classic games available for download to play on Wii's Virtual Console™. These include games for the NES®, Super NES®, Nintendo® 64, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx16 consoles. Players redeem Wii Points in the Wii Shop Channel and download their games.

The Virtual Console is going to be the first mass market attempt at selling content that most players are used to finding illegally. Before now, to play F-Zero for the SNES you had to either find an old cartridge and system, or spend a few seconds searching on the internet for an emulator and game ROM. Some people had built arcades machines that were basically computers loaded with emulators and ROMs; Now this same basic idea will be available to anyone with a Nintendo Wii.
