Rock Band 2 manual reveals free downloadable track workings

Rock Band 2 manual - backHarmonix has mentioned that over 100 songs would be available in Rock Band 2, but announced that only 84 would be included on the disc. Another 20 would be free Downloadable Content, but they had not made clear the method by which people would get these free songs. Most people, myself included, thought that the 20 songs would simply be available for free in the Rock Band music store. The manual, however, makes it clear that it will not be quite this simple, and not everyone who pops in a disc will get the free songs.

The back of the manual includes a code that must be entered on the Rock Band website (http://www.rockband.com/bonustracks) along with an e-mail address. At some point in the future you will receive a code in your e-mail that can be redeemed for the bonus tracks. It seems a little roundabout, and each code can probably only be entered once, so if you want to take the game to a friends house, be sure to load up the bonus tracks on a memory card, because it appears that you need more than just access to the RB2 disc to get the bonus tracks.

I've snapped a (bad, camera phone) picture of the back of the manual just for anyone who wants to pore over the details more.

Review: King of Clubs for Wii

King of Clubs box artThe Wii has become well known for its collection of mini-game titles, and they are largely successful with the casual gaming crowd. But what about a full fledged game about a miniature version of a sport? What about mini-golf on the Wii, could it work? King of Clubs aims to answer that question, lets see just how well this mini-golf game translates to the Wii.

Review: Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Capcom continues their retro arcade titles with a new release of an old classic: Bionic Commando: Rearmed. It's not a new adventure of an old hero, it's simply an update of the graphics and sound of the original, with the core game mechanics. But is that enough to be worth the price of admission?

Review: Purr Pals

Purr Pals Box ArtThere are games that reviewers look forward to, and games that they don't. For the games that we don't, it's usually because the game has had nothing but bad news leading up to its release, or that we're clearly outside the target market of the game. With Purr Pals for the Nintendo Wii, it's clearly the second reason. But perhaps this simple game with its cute box art and wuvable wittle kitties... sorry... loveable little kitties, can turn this late-twenty-something gamer into a pet-sim lover.

Review: 1942: Joint Strike

Capcom sure has been having a blast releasing some remakes of classic arcade shooters recently, haven't they? Next off the development line is 1942: Joint Strike, the new (re)incarnation of its classic WWII Pacific Theater shooter series. Like Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, 1942: Joint Strike should satisfy the old school shooter fans out there with some tight graphics and killer gameplay. Read on for the full review.

Rock Band Live Tour comes to Dallas in November

Rock Band LogoWith the huge success of the original Rock Band game, Harmonix is promoting their upcoming sequel, Rock Band 2, by taking the show on the road. Using headliners Panic At The Disco and Dashboard Confessional, they will be having concerts across the country that will feature Rock Band performances by the general public. That means that you might be able to play on stage between the major acts, and show off your Rock Band skills to the world.

Tickets for the event will go on sale starting on August 8th, 2008, with the local Dallas show happening on November 12, 2008 at Nokia Theatre.

The full press release and tour dates are listed after the jump.

Rock Band Contest provides that Rock Star feeling

Ever since Harmonix developed the first Guitar Hero game in 2005, the goal has always been to give the feeling of performing up on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans. This idea was expanded with the release of Rock Band which allowed you to complete your band with a drummer and lead singer. The only problem left was that you were still just playing in your living room with your friends, not on a real stage in front of screaming fans. That is unless of course you had the chance to perform at The Ultimate Rock Band & Guitar Hero Competition this past weekend at The Max, hosted by Maximedia Studios.
