Shadow of the Colossus Screenshot 2In their new game Shadow of the Colossus, developer SCEI has taken the time-honored formula of saving a damsel in distress, and crafted a very innovative game based around the search for a lost love. Finding your lost love won't be an easy task, as the nameless hero will be required to match wits against sixteen of the eponymous creatures of the title.

Each of the Colossi (to answer the earlier question) is different, and poses a new challenge to our hero. Upon first seeing these vast abominations, it would be first instinct to turn tail and run, but thankfully these beasts all have some sort of weakness. By holding the hero's sword up to the sun, the Colussus' weak point will be illuminated, and then it will be possible to deal some swift justice to the monster.

Shadow of the Colossus Screenshot 1The creature in the demo at E3 was a gigantic lumbering monster made of rock and sod, wielding an equally huge club that it started swinging once it caught sight of the hero. The top of its head turned out to be its weak point, but reaching that spot was no simple task. In order to get to the top, the hero had to literally scale the back of the Colossus, while meanwhile avoid being shaken off, and then cling to the top of the head and begin to stab into the creature's skull.

Felling the giant was quite an impressive sight, as black liquid sprayed from the wounds on its head, while it slowly toppled to the ground. If this is any sign of the upcoming battles, this game should have no problem garnering some attention from gamers. In addition to the gameplay mentioned, there is also the ability to ride your steed into battle, as well as equipping other implements that will allow you to kick some Colossus tail.

This game definitely has much potential, and should be due out this fall on PS2.
