Rock Band Classic Rock Track PackRock Band and Rock Band 2 both include a lot of songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and with a constant stream of downloadable content (DLC), there are literally hundreds of songs to choose from. Usually these songs are available for $2 a piece (or 160 Microsoft point), so over time it can get expensive to have a large library. One way Harmonix is trying to help out is by releasing stand-alone track packs that can be purchased at retail outlets. They have released a new Classic Rock Track Pack, but does the value hold up? Read the rest of our short review to find out, and enter to win our copy of the Track Pack!

[Update: The contest is over, thanks to everyone who entered, and congrats to our winner, PSQUARED2!]

For $30 (or less) you get 20 classic rock songs, ranging from The Who to Steve Miller Band to Dead Kennedys. By packaging them up, the average price drops to $1.50, but that's really only a good value if you like every song on the disc.

The disc itself can be played without needing any other version of Rock Band, so if you find an old guitar controller (even from the Guitar Hero series), you can still have a good deal of fun. The interface is from the original Rock Band, even though Rock Band 2 has been out since September 2008. There is no character customization, nor any online play, but for a party the Band Quick Play is really all you need.

The real benefit to the Track Pack is the included code that can be redeemed through Xbox Live. It queues up a large download for all 20 songs in the track pack, which then makes them playable in either Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Much like the AC/DC Live Track Pack, this makes it clear that the track packs are already on the marketplace, but for some reason you have to buy the physical disc to get a code to get that content. The AC/DC Track Pack is still not available in a digital-only version, so it's unlikely the Classic Rock track pack will ever be available that way either.

Overall, unless you really like every song on the Track Pack (which are listed below), you're probably better off buying the individual tracks as desired. If you haven't exported all the original Rock Band tracks and purchased Rock Band 2, that would still be the way to go to get the most bang for your buck.

Now for the contest, where you can win our copy of Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock, including the download code! All you need to do is leave a comment saying which of the songs on the track pack, listed below, is your favorite. The contest will close on Monday June 8, 2009, at which point a winner will be randomly selected. Good luck!
